PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) First Instance Body (FIB) have confirmed that seven clubs have successfully completed their submissions for the 2026-2027 club licensing cycle ahead of the April 30 deadline.
The clubs are Johor Darul Ta’zim, Selangor, Sabah, Terengganu, Penang, Kuching City and Negri Sembilan, all of whom applied for either Asian Football Confederation (AFC) or national licences.
After earlier uncertainty due to budget constraints, Terengganu have now submitted their application.
Several other clubs, including Immigration, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Police and Kelantan The Real Warriors, have submitted their applications too but requested additional time to complete documentation.
In the AFL Liga A1 (Extraordinary National Licence) category, four clubs, Armed Forces, Bunga Raya, Kelantan Red Warriors and UM Damansara United have also applied, with some seeking extensions.
FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif said the body have approved an extension until May 14 for clubs to finalise their submissions.
“The evaluation process will be conducted transparently and in accordance with established criteria to ensure compliance and support the long-term professional development of Malaysian clubs,” he said.
Licensing decisions are scheduled to be finalised during the FIB committee meeting on May 20, with appeals, if required, to be heard on May 29.
The final list of clubs granted AFC and national licences will be submitted to AFC by May 31.
Meanwhile, Brunei, an invited foreign club, are exempted from applying for a national licence.
