PETALING JAYA: Selangor are ready for some hard labour to ensure they nail the second spot in the Super League.
And that resolution to meet their goal is made even stronger after coach Kim Pan-gon celebrated his 57th birthday on Labour Day yesterday.
The South Korean is hoping for a fitting gift as the Red Giants push for a vital three points against Penang at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.
With Kuching City breathing down Selangor’s neck just two points behind, Pan-gon’s charges can’t afford a slip-up against the Panthers.
Pan-gon admitted that Penang could pose a stern challenge, highlighting both their individual quality and strong team organisation.
“They have impressive players across the pitch, on the wings, in attack and in defence. As a team, they are well-organised, passionate and aggressive,’’ he said.
“We respect them fully and expect a good match. They will come at us strongly, and we will do the same. It should be an exciting game for the fans.”
Acknowledging the tight race for second spot, Pan-gon emphasised that Selangor must first take care of their own results before looking elsewhere.
“It’s a very close contest and Kuching City will push us all the way. We need to do our job properly, win our next two matches, and then see what happens with the other teams. We can only hope for the best.”
