PETALING JAYA: Football fan group Ultras Malaya, have officially declared a boycott of all Malaysian national team matches effective immediately.
In a statement released on Friday (May 1), the group announced the start of phase one of their protest.
The group has set an Aug 31 deadline for relevant authorities to address three demands.
They are the revocation of citizenship for seven specific players, the return of Harimau Malaya’s management back to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and a total reform of the Malaysian football system.
Ultras Malaya stated that the boycott is a necessary move to ensure Malaysian football is truly independent from governance failures and long-standing systemic missteps.
If these demands are not met by the deadline, the group warned they would proceed to phase two, which they described as a "more comprehensive" boycott that would impact the entire Malaysia League (M-League) ecosystem.
"We remain firm in our stance to fight for a Malaysian football scene that is authentic, honest, fair and systematic," said the statement.
"We strongly reject any form of using football as a tool to fulfil the lust for influence and personal interests of any party or individual."
The group clarified that the decision was not born out of hatred for the national team, but rather a desire for a more "dignified and responsible" future for the sport.
Ultras Malaya was formed in 2007, bringing together several fan groups from various states.
