Aug 22 (Reuters) - Iran striker Mehdi Taremi has joined UAE Pro League leaders Al Wasl from Olympiacos, ‌the Emirati club said on Saturday.

Al Wasl published a photograph of the 34-year-old forward holding the club's shirt after completing the move, but did not disclose the financial terms of the transfer.

According to Transfermarkt, Taremi has signed ‌a contract that runs until June 30, 2027.

Taremi arrives with a wealth of experience after spells at Porto and Inter Milan, ‌where he established himself as one of Asia's most accomplished forwards.

The striker represented Iran at the 2026 World Cup in North America, where they exited in the group stage after drawing all three of their matches.

His arrival strengthens an Al Wasl side that have made a flying start to the season, winning their opening two league matches to sit atop the UAE Pro League standings.

Al Wasl are also preparing for the AFC Champions League Elite after finishing third in the domestic league last season. They are ‌due to face Saudi Arabia's Al Qadsiah on September 14.
