Reliable hands: Eager Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman making a save during training.
PETALING JAYA: National goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman has dismissed the rumours surrounding the future of national coach Peter Cklamovski, making it clear that the Harimau Malaya players remain strongly behind the Australian.
The 23-year-old said the speculation circulating outside the training camp had not affected the team, nor had it entered the dressing room.
“We as players are very happy with him. I haven’t heard any rumours about resignations or anything like that. That’s not within my control anyway. I think it’s all just outside speculation,” said Izhan.
He added that the squad remained calm, united and fully focused on their Asian Cup 2027 third-round qualifier against Nepal again at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.
They had beaten their opponents 2-0 in the first game in March.
Izhan, who is currently the third-choice option behind Johor Darul Ta’zim’s Ahmad Syihan Hazmi and Kuching City’s Haziq Nadzli, said he valued his third national call-up.
“I believe that the players selected for the national team are the best in Malaysia. If the coach gives me the chance, I’ll give my very best,” said Izhan.
Izhan has been slowly rebuilding his confidence after regaining his place at Selangor, where he has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, recording two clean sheets.
That return to regular football, he said, has helped him restore momentum.
“Selangor gave me the opportunity to play again. It’s the best stepping stone for me to build consistency in every match.
“I’m here to help the national team and bring positive energy.”
Looking ahead to the match against Nepal, Izhan is optimistic that Malaysia can deliver another strong performance.
“We’ve studied their recent performances, and with the attacking sharpness we have, we can get another good result,” added Izhan, whose only cap for Malaysia came in March 2023 against Papua New Guinea.
