Turtles game for giant step

Turtles’ top scorer: Safawi Rasid (front) has bagged 17 goals in 32 matches in all competitions for Terengganu.

PETALING JAYA: It’s a do-or-die mission for Terengganu as they have to beat Selangor at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Saturday to rescue their bid for a top four finish in the Super League.

Turtles coach Badrul Afzan Razali only gave his players a day off for their Hari Raya celebrations as they returned to training on Tuesday to prepare for the clash.

Terengganu are now fifth in the league with 32 points from 22 games, and have to win their last three games to meet their top four target.

If they achieve that aim, Terengganu will get to play in the Asean Club Championships for the second straight season.

Coach Badrul Afzan Razali said it was tough giving his players just a day off for Hari Raya but he had no choice as he needs them to be at their sharpest against the Red Giants.

“If we lose to Selangor, we can forget about finishing in the top four. Kuching City and Sabah also have the same aim, so we have no choice but to win our last three games,” said Badrul.

“We are behind Kuching and Sabah, so we are at a critical phase.”

In the thick of the fray will be Terengganu’s top scorer Safawi Rasid, who has bagged 17 goals in 32 matches in all competitions.

The 28-year-old playmaker is looking to end the season with a bang.

“This has been one of my best seasons. I have scored 17 goals and made four assists,” he said.

“So I want my journey with the team this season to end with us accomplishing our mission.”
