KUALA LUMPUR: Captain and striker Paulo Josue believes Kuala Lumpur’s dramatic 1-0 win over Brunei can be the turning point the City Boys badly need in the Super League.
Josue struck an injury-time winner to hand Kuala Lumpur their first Super League victory of the season yesterday after being down to 10 men following Gary Steven Robbat’s stoppage-time red card at the Cheras Football Stadium here on Saturday.
The naturalised striker, however, was quick to stress that plenty of work remained ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
“We lost six points from our first two matches, so we needed to get back in business and we did,” said Josue.
Negri Sembilan got a walkover win 3-0 after Kuala Lumpur failed to put up a squad in the first match week due to a transfer ban.
They then lost to Kuching City 0-6 where they only fielded 10 players after getting a special clearance by Malaysian Football League (MFL).
“Brunei played a little bit better and had a few chances in the first half. Thank God they didn’t score, and we managed to hold them,” said Josue.
“In the second, we created a few more chances, but there is still plenty of room for us to improve.
“There were a lot of technical mistakes and physically we are not quite there yet, but the most important thing was getting the three points.”
He was thankful of the last minute goal.
“I was a little bit lucky to get the chance after their defender made a slight mistake, allowing me to get in front, take the ball, and score.”
They will now focus on the FA Cup round of 16 first-leg match tomorrow against Perak at Manjung Stadium and then will resume their Super League campaign against Kelantan at Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baruon on Friday.
