Harimau Malaya go down fighting in 0-1 loss to Thailand in AFF Cup


PETALING JAYA: Harimau Malaya have suffered their first defeat in the AFF Cup after losing 0-1 to Thailand in their third Group A match at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Saturday (Dec 14).

A mistake from goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli dampened the hopes of Malaysia getting at least a point when his loose pass was intercepted by Thai striker Suphanat Muenta, whose pass was then finished off by fellow striker Patrik Gustavsson in the 57th minute.

However, Malaysia produced a much better performance compared to their 3-2 win against Timor Leste in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, with players like midfielders Endrick dos Santos and Sergio Aguero impressing against the War Elephants.

The win sees Malaysia dropping to third in the group with four points, while Thailand are top with six. Singapore are second, also with six, but with an inferior goal difference.

Malaysia will complete their Group A campaign by taking on Singapore at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Dec 20.
