Cklamovski salutes nation’s football potential

PETALING JAYA: Peter Cklamovski (pic) leaves his post as Harimau Malaya head coach with a belief that Malaysian football’s best days are still ahead.

"Malaysian football has incredible potential. The supporters are passionate, the players are always talented, and they love the game in this country," the Australian said in his farewell message.

"I leave wishing nothing but success for Malaysian football."

FAM confirmed on Thursday (June 18) that Cklamovski, along with senior technical staff members Matthew Smith and Seiya Imazaki, have parted ways with the national team by mutual consent, effective June 16.

The departures did not stop there. Under-23 head coach Nafuzi Zain and goalkeeper coach Mohd Yazid Mohd Yassin also exited their roles on Monday (June 15), also by mutual consent, bringing the total number of departures to five across both national setups.

Cklamovski, in signing off, paid tribute to those who served alongside him: "My deepest appreciation goes to the players and staff who gave everything throughout this journey.

"Every training session, every match and every moment together was driven by the same objective, to make Malaysia proud."

Nafuzi, too, departed with warmth.

"It is certainly not easy to say goodbye to a team that is so close to my heart," the Under-23 coach said, expressing confidence that his young charges would grow into vital assets for the national programme.

FAM said they respect the decisions made and expressed their highest appreciation for the contributions of all departing staff.

The association added that steps are being taken to fill the vacant positions, with further updates on the national team structure to be announced in due course.
