Super League game postponed after City Boys hit by influenza outbreak

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) have postponed the Super League match between Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Aug 22) after an influenza outbreak swept through the City Boys’ squad.

The match, originally scheduled for 5pm at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, was called off after MFL received an official application from Kuala Lumpur detailing the extent of the outbreak within the squad.

It was learnt that Kuala Lumpur could not register their new signings on time due to a FIFA transfer ban, but MFL have since announced that, due to an influenza outbreak, they could not play the game.

In the application, Kuala Lumpur stated that 15 players and two team officials had reported symptoms including fever, cough, cold and diarrhoea, backed by a medical report submitted to the league.

The club said all affected players and officials would be referred to the Petaling district health office for further treatment, given how easily the illness spreads and the recovery time required.

After assessing the application and the situation facing Kuala Lumpur, MFL decided the match could not proceed, prioritising the welfare and health of the players and team officials involved.

The league said the matter would be brought before the MFL board of directors, who will decide on the status of the fixture in due course.
