Pahang hope to arrest their decline against Cops

PETALING JAYA: Will it be a sight of a revival or a gloomy evening for Pahang football in Temerloh today?

Coach Fandi Ahmad is certainly hoping for brighter days as his team had been winless after seven matches in the Super League.

They have only won one out of their eight matches (1-0 against Kelantan) and that is a grim reading for a football side fancied to take on the top sides at the beginning of the season.

Since then, they have notched four draws and three defeats. In their last league game, they were held 1-1 by Terengganu on Aug 16.

Fandi wants his charges to improve their standings in the league. The Elephants are currently 10th in the league with seven points.

“We have only recorded one win in the league, which is worrying and not good enough. I am hoping the team can reap success in our ninth game though we know Police are a side not to be taken lightly,” he said.

Fandi said he worked on players’ fitness and sharpened their attackers finishing skills during the international period.

“I want us to dominate the game and stay focused for 90 minutes against the Cops.

“We have to be even stronger as we want to end that winless run in front of our own fans.”

Liberian striker Kpah Sherman would surely be the main man upfront, tasked to score goals and hopefully lead his side to a win.But Fandi wants fellow attackers like Sergio Aguero, Mykola Ahapov and Sean Selvaraj to provide ample ammunition for Sherman.

They can also rely on winger T. Saravanan as a super sub for goals.

Fandi knows another draw or defeat would mean there would be added pressure on his team and also his future as a coach.
