Romel joins Turtles ahead of new Super League season

PETALING JAYA: Terengganu have stepped up their preparations for the 2026-2027 Malaysia Super League season by signing national striker Romel Morales (pic) on a one-year deal.

The 29-year-old joins the Turtles after leaving Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and is expected to spearhead the attack alongside Curacao international Gervane Kastaneer as the club look to improve on last season’s fifth-place finish.

Terengganu managed just 39 league goals last season and will hope the addition of Morales, who scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for JDT, provides the cutting edge they lacked.

Morales becomes the club’s sixth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Manuel Ott, Ahmad Haziq Kutty, Daniel Amier Norhisham, Habib Haroon and Faiz Mazlan.

The Colombian-born forward is no stranger to Malaysian football, having begun his local career with PKNS in 2018 before spells with Melaka United, Kuala Lumpur City and JDT.

He also made his mark on the international stage after becoming a naturalised Malaysian, memorably scoring Harimau Malaya’s equaliser in the dramatic 3-3 draw against South Korea at the 2023 Asian Cup.
