PETALING JAYA: Terengganu have added a homegrown burst of pace to their mix of power and creativity in the team.
Winger G. Pavithran (pic), who impressed for Malaysia at the Hyundai AFF Cup, has signed a one-year deal with the Turtles and could make his Super League debut against Penang at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak today.
The 21-year-old has joined Terengganu on a one-season contract, adding depth to their midfield options under head coach Nafuzi Zain.
Pavithran is regarded as one of the more promising young talents to have emerged from the national set-up, with his form for Malaysia drawing growing interest on the domestic scene.
His arrival is expected to add a fresh dimension to Terengganu’s midfield as they look to build a more competitive squad for the new season, blending youthful energy with club-level experience and international exposure.
Curacao striker Gervane Kastaneer and naturalised Ghanaian forward Jordan Mintah bring size and strength up front, while Spanish playmaker Victor Ruiz and naturalised striker Romel Morales add creativity in the final third.
Burundian winger Elvis Kamsoba and Brazilian trickster Mateusinho Gustavo, meanwhile, offer width and speed out wide.
Pavithran, who is set to add the finishing touch to a near complete squad, said: “I feel comfortable with the team and if I’m given the chance to play on Saturday, my focus is to make an impact and help the team achieve a positive result.”
Terengganu started the season well with a 3-0 win against Melaka on Aug 22, but suffered a setback when they lost 3-0 to Selangor on Aug 28.
A win against Penang would get their season back on track and with the riches of talent Nafuzi has, expectations will be high.
