Kelantan hope new striker will fit to a Te in plans for Super League

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan Darul Naim have strengthened their attacking force with the signing of Guinea-Bissau striker Valdumar Augusto Te (pic) ahead of the Super League season starting in May.

The 26-year-old, who played for his country in the World Cup qualifiers, brings a wealth of experience and prowess to the team, rebranded from Kelantan United.

He started his footballing career back in 2014 when he joined the youth ranks of Sporting De Bissau and has since navigated through various clubs.

Te joined the Under-18 squad of Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal and spent two years in their youth football system.

In 2016, he began his professional career after being loaned to Portuguese Liga Two club, Mafra, where he played 23 matches and scored five goals.

Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Arouca recognised Te’s potential and loaned him for the 2019-2020 season, during which he continued to receive national team call-ups.

After his loan stint, Te returned to his former club Vitoria Setubal for the following season before joining Portuguese Liga three club Amora in 2020. Then he embarked on new challenges in Japan and China.

Japanese J3 club FC Imabari expressed interest in having Te in their squad where he scored four goals in 17 appearances for the team before being recruited by Chinese League One club QD Youth Island in 2022, going on to score 10 goals.

Staying in China, he moved to YB Longding for the 2023 season. In the second-tier Chinese League, he made a total of 52 appearances.

Te’s arrival in Kota Baru comes at a crucial time as the rebranded side gear up for the intense competition awaiting them in their second season in the Super League.

Te will get to stretch his legs in Kelantan’s pre-season friendlies before they start their season against Pahang on May 11.
