Penang’s Amer dares to dream of Cup glory

PETALING JAYA: Local boy Mohd Amer Azahar hopes to help Penang end their long wait to taste Malaysia Cup glory.

Amer, who is from Kampung Seronok in Bayan Lepas, said it is a dream come true for any local player to be part of a victorious Malaysia Cup team.

“Penang have not won the Malaysia Cup for a very long time. In football, nothing is impossible and if we make the final, I am sure our fans will come in droves to watch the final.

“This is the motivation we need to rise again in our remaining four matches after a slow start where we only managed to collect one point from two matches,” he said.

Penang last lifted the Malaysia Cup in 1974 when they beat Perak 2-1. Their last final appearance was in 1977 when they lost 2-3 to Singapore at the Merdeka Stadium.

Penang will resume their campaign against Sri Pahang FC at the Darul Makmur Stadium on Oct 30 and they need to win to keep their chances alive in Group C, which also comprises Sarawak United and Kuala Lumpur.
