PETALING JAYA: International Cycling Union (UCI) have approved the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) hosting rights as a Pro Series event to Malaysia for another three years (2026 to 2028).
Newly elected UCI vice president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, who announced this today (Oct 7), described the decision as proof of Malaysia's status as one of the best organisers in the world cycling calendar.
"This is a great success for Malaysia. It is clear proof that the UCI have full confidence in our country's ability to organize LTdL efficiently, professionally and without any issues," said Amarjit, who is also Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president.
Amarjit revealed that he had discussed directly with UCI president David Lappartient on the importance of LTdL as one of the major races in the Asian continent and the need to ensure its continued hosting as a Pro Series event.
"I stressed to the UCI president that LTdL is not just an ordinary race — it is a symbol of the development and progress of cycling in Asia.
"I am delighted that he fully agreed and gave his strong support for this race to continue to be included in the Pro Series calendar for the next three years."
However, it is not yet clear who will be responsible for organising LTdL from next year.
National Sports Council (NSC) director Jefri Ngadirin has said earlier that all decisions regarding the organising rights will be decided by the Cabinet after his party presents a full report on the race.
NSC have been the organisers of LTdL for the last three years since 2023.
