PETALING JAYA: Terengganu Cycling Team’s (TSG) Mohd Nur Aiman Zariff ended a four-year wait by riding to victory in the Classique of Mauritius on Sunday.
Aiman charged his way through the pack to beat Callum Ormiston from the Joyrun and Hurricane Cycling Team in a sprint finish to win the UCI 1.2 race with a time of 2’56:17s.
TSG got a double podium after Juan Pedro Lozano came in third just five seconds later.
The race, which started and ended in the village of Saint Pierre, saw Aiman end his drought on the international stage since he last won gold at the 2022 Hanoi SEA Games.
“I’m really thankful to get the win for the team; it’s something I wasn’t expecting at all,” said Aiman.
“The race and the group were aggressive and many were attacking from the start, but I just tried my best to keep up with them.
“I got past many riders until I caught up with the front pack.”
Towards the final stretch of the race, Aiman overcame two riders to cross the finish line first.
“In the last 20km, there were only two riders ahead of me. I’m thankful I sprinted past them and won.”
Meanwhile, TSG’s Pierre Barbier came in 10th, while Vadim Pronskiy and Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki finished 26th and 36th, respectively.
