Cycling chief held by MACC

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Abu Samah Abdul Wahab is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), it has been confirmed.

He has reportedly been remanded for three days by the Putrajaya magistrate court to facilitate investigations.

It is learned that Abu Samah was arrested at his home in Melaka over allegations that several projects were given to a company owned by him, while projects were awarded to family members.

MNCF vice-president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill confirmed the arrest and said the national body would give their full cooperation to the authorities on the matter.

“Datuk Abu Samah has been asked to assist in the investigations and has been cooperating fully with the authorities. I also want to add that he has always given his full cooperation to MACC whenever he was called to do so and whenever they visited MNCF’s office,” said Amarjit yesterday.

“As far as MNCF is concerned, everything that was done has always been with the full support and endorsement of the executive committee,” he said.

Amarjit said Abu Samah would remain the MNCF president.

It’s important to note that he is only assisting in an investigation and has not been charged or convicted on any charges.”

Amarjit said that despite the investigations, the national body would stay focused on hosting the upcoming Asian Road Cycling Championships from March 17-22.

“He (Abu Samah) will continue to run the organisation ... we have our hands full with the Asian Road Championships,” said Amarjit.
