Flying start ends in heartbreak for Quarratu’Ain at World Youth meet

PETALING JAYA: It was a cruel end to a promising campaign for rising bowling starlet Qurratu’Ain Izdihar Pozi at the World Youth Championships in Kuching yesterday.

The 18-year-old looked destined for a deep run after topping the top-16 qualifying standings with a superb six-game total of 1,290 pins at Megalanes Sarawak to earn the No. 1 seeding for the second round.

But the reigning Malaysian Open winner's joy was shortlived when she missed the cut after finishing third in the round-robin match format.

Only the top two in each group make it to the semi-finals.

Adelia Nur Izwan Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan, who also make it to the second round, did not advance.

Qurratu’Ain’s however, will be out to make amends when she gets into action in the girls' doubles with Adania next.

Meanwhile, the medal hunt is also over for Mohd Danial Abu Samah and Mohd Amman Syahin Sulaiman when both missed out on the top two spots in the boys' singles event.
