Kang looks forward to improving his game with new partner Lok

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttler Kang Khai Xing is ready to improve his game as he takes on a new challenge with partner Lok Hong Quan.

The men’s doubles pair will make their first appearance together at the Malaysia Super 100, which begins next Tuesday in Iskandar Puteri.

Khai Xing admitted he was initially disappointed when the coaches decided to split him from Aaron Tai, but said he has since moved on and is now focused on improving his own game.

“Of course I was a little sad because we had only just broken into the top 20, and it is not easy to get there,” said Khai Xing.

“But I have put that behind me now and I just want to focus on myself.”

Khai Xing is also aware that he needs to improve his speed and power, and has been working on those areas in training over the past few weeks.

“For the past two or three weeks, I have been focusing more on my physical condition, speed and power on court.

“So far, I feel I have improved compared to before.

“We will see how it goes in the tournament,” he added.

Khai Xing and Aaron, who won the world junior title together in 2024, were split after the coaches felt there was a clear difference between them in terms of speed and performance.

Khai Xing was then paired with Wan Arif Wan Junaidi at the end of July, but the partnership did not produce the results they had hoped for.

They lost in the first round of all four tournaments they played together – the China Open, Taiwan Open, Korean Masters and China Masters.
