PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian men’s badminton squad got their Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games campaign off to a winning start after breezing past Mongolia with a 3-0 victory to enter the quarter-finals on Monday (Sept 21).
Singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao delivered the first point for Malaysia by beating Batdavaa Munkbat 21-13, 21-12 in 25 minutes at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi.
Doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani got past their opponents even quicker, beating Battugs Bayarsaikhan-Bishrelt-erdene Odbayar 21-5, 21-15 in 19 minutes.
Second singles shuttler Justin Hoh then sealed Malaysia’s spot in the last eight as he won 21-7, 21-5 against Gerelsukh Jargalsaikhann in 25 minutes.
Malaysia will face Indonesia next in the quarter-finals on Tuesday (Sept 22). Indonesia had received a first-round bye.
