PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Chia Weijie-Teo Ee Yi continued their fine form at the Korean Open by securing a place in the quarter-finals on Thursday (Nov 5).
Fresh from their impressive first round victory over China's world No. 11 Chen Boyang-Liu Yi, the Malaysian men's doubles pair kept their momentum going with a 21-9, 21-19 win over Taiwan's world No. 38 He Zhi-wei-Huang Jui-hsuan.
Weijie-Ee Yi needed just 28 minutes to see off their opponents in the second round clash at the Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu.
They will next face either fellow Malaysian Goh V Shem and his South Korean partner Choi Sol-gyu or Japan's former world champions Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi for a place in the semi-finals.
Joining them in the last eight were compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who overcame another Taiwanese pair, Chen Zhi-ray-Lin Yu-chieh, 24-22, 21-12 in 33 minutes.
The third seeds will next take on Japan's Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa for a place in the semi-finals.
However, women's singles shuttler K. Letshanaa could not keep Malaysia's winning momentum going after falling 10-21, 12-21 to South Korea's world No. 1 An Se-young.
