PETALING JAYA: Men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia got his Taiwan Open campaign off to a winning start after defeating home player Liao Jhuo-fu in the first round on Wednesday (July 29).

Zii Jia battled back from a game down to beat Jhuo-fu 22-24, 21-12, 21-15 in 63 minutes to book his place in the second round at the Taipei Arena.

Justin Hoh also advanced after pulling off an impressive 21-14, 15-21, 21-11 victory over fifth seed Zaki Ubaidillah of Indonesia.

The win also avenged Justin's quarter-final defeat to Zaki at the Australian Open last month.

It was, however, the end of the road for rising mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin, who went down 5-21, 17-21 to Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Maya Taguchi.

Chen Tang Jie and his new partner Clarissa San, however, progressed to the second round after defeating Indonesia's Renaldi Samosir-Masita Mahmudin 21-19, 18-21, 22-20.

There was more good news for Malaysia as Low Han Chen-Chan Wen Tse upset fifth seeds Liu Kuang-heng-Hsu Yin-hui of Taiwan 15-21, 21-13, 21-18 to also reach the mixed doubles second round.
