Zii Jia falls short of Canadian Open final

PETALING JAYA: Independent men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia's hopes of reaching the Canadian Open final ended after he lost to Japan's Riki Takei in the semi-finals on Saturday (July 4).

Playing at the Markham Pan Am Centre, Zii Jia took the opening game, but Takei fought back to force a decider before sealing a 13-21, 21-18, 21-18 victory in a 70-minute battle.

The win also gave Takei sweet revenge after he lost to Zii Jia in the Australian Open qualifying rounds three weeks ago.

Takei will face fellow Japanese Yudai Okimoto in the final.
