Zi Yu-Noraqilah 'not pressured' by comparisons to Pearly-Thinaah

PETALING JAYA: Youngster Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan admits she and her partner Low Zi Yu still have a considerable gap to overcome before they can be compared to the country’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah.

The 18-year-old said she and Zi Yu, 16, are not feeling pressured by growing comparisons to world No. 2 Pearly-Thinaah following their impressive performance at the Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark, last week.

"To me, our level is still quite far to be fighting with Pearly and Thinaah, especially when it comes to experience and game maturity," she said when met at Akademi Badminton Malaysia on Tuesday (May 5).

"Zi Yu and I are still trying to rise, so I don’t think it’s something that we can compare yet.

"They are much more mature and better at their game. For us, we are just trying to put out the best performance that we can and not think about competing against them for now."

The young duo turned heads in Horsens after stunning world No. 7 Japanese pair Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi to deliver the only point in Malaysia’s 1-4 defeat in the final Group B tie.

Thanks to their inspired display, Zi Yu-Noraqilah have moved up 12 spots in the world rankings to No. 131.
