Tang Jie-Ee Wei march into Asian C'ships quarters

PETALING JAYA: Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei powered into the quarter-finals of the Asian Championships in Ningbo, China after a comfortable win over India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto on Thursday (April 9).

The world champions needed just 37 minutes to take the second-round match at the Ningbo Olympic Centre, winning 21-13, 21-14.

They will next face South Korea’s Kim Jae-hyeon-Jang Hae-jeong for a place in the last four.

It was, however, a different story for husband-and-wife pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, who fell short in their bid to join their compatriots after going down 21-10, 15-21, 16-21 to Taiwan’s Chen Cheng-kuan-Hsu Yin-hui.

Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien also exited after struggling against sixth seeds Guo Xinwa-Chen Fanghui, losing 8-21, 14-21 in 33 minutes.

In the women’s singles, K. Letshanaa saw her campaign end in the second round following a 14-21, 8-21 defeat to South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin.
