Mixed fortunes as Aaron-Wooi Yik progresses, but Jun Hao falls

PETALING JAYA: World No. 2 men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik got their Asian Championships title defence off to a convincing start in Ningbo after defeating Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Wang Chi-lin on Wednesday (April 8).

In the match held at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre, Aaron-Wooi Yik needed little time to clear the opening round, sealing a 21-15, 21-15 win in 38 minutes.

Awaiting Aaron-Wooi Yik in the second round will be either Hong Kong’s Law Cheuk Him-Yeung Shing Choi or home pair Hu Keyuan-Lin Xiangyi.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Leong Jun Hao fell to fourth seed Jonatan Christie, going down 13-21, 8-21 in 36 minutes.

It marked Jun Hao’s second consecutive defeat to Jonatan after suffering the same fate at the Malaysian Open in January.
