Sze Fei-Izzuddin crash out early in Asian Championships

PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani had only themselves to blame after crashing out in the first round of the Asian Championships in Ningbo on Wednesday (April 8).

In the match held at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre, Sze Fei-Izzuddin, who came in as the 2024 runners-up, were given a tough fight by Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn-Worrapol Thongsa-nga.

Although they fought back to force a deciding game, Sze Fei-Izzuddin could not keep up the momentum and went down 22-24, 21-18, 11-21 in 61 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles, debutants Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan went down to Taiwan’s Hsieh Pei-shan-Hung En-tzu 12-21, 16-21.

Also shown the exit was women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei, who lost to Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki 12-21, 15-21.

In the men’s singles, Justin Hoh tried to pull off an upset against world No. 14 Alwi Farhan.

Despite putting up a strong fight, it was not enough as he fell 19-21, 21-14, 18-21 to the Indonesian.
