PETALING JAYA: Lack of consistency cost youngsters Loo Bing Kun-Noraqilah Maisarah the mixed doubles title at the Singapore International Series.

Yesterday, the world No. 198 pair fought hard but went down 14-21, 23-21, 12-21 to Indonesia’s Muhammad Al Farizi-Jessica Maya in a 45-minute final in Singapore.

The duo had enjoyed a good start to the year after winning the Sweden Open in January.

While delighted with his charges’ run to the final, coach Hazwan Jamaluddin admitted they struggled to finish strongly.

“Their opponents played well today (yesterday) and our players were inconsistent,” said Hazwan.

“I wish they had stayed calm but they didn’t and lacked the quality to challenge their rivals. Still, I’m grateful they reached the final.”

Bing Kun-Noraqilah will next compete in the Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi from March 24-29 as they look to improve their world ranking.
