Jin Wei agrees to bolster national squad for Uber Cup Finals

PETALING JAYA: Women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei has finally agreed to strengthen the national squad for the Uber Cup Finals, in Horsens, Denmark from April 24-May 3.

The matter was confirmed by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Datuk Kenny Goh.

“We have received feedback from all the independent players, including Goh Jin Wei. They have all agreed to represent the country in the Thomas and Uber Cups,” said Kenny when met at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on Friday (Feb 27).

Jin Wei had earlier, together with close friend Lee Zii Jia, who was also invited to bolster the national squad for the Thomas Cup, requested a week to provide an answer after meeting BAM last Friday.

However, three days after the meeting, Zii Jia confirmed his agreement to don the national colours and was willing to waive the image rights fee to BAM.

Apart from Jin Wei and Zii Jia, BAM have also called up another professional men’s singles player, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, and men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani to strengthen the national squad.
