Mei Xing looks forward after Pei Kee ends their partnership

PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing is ready to move on after partner Go Pei Kee decided to go separate ways.

The 28-year-old Mei Xing said she found out that Pei Kee wanted to part ways early this year after having spent a year and a half playing together on court.

“It’s not a good year because on Jan 1, I heard from my coach that Pei Kee decided to end our partnership,” said Mei Xing.

“So that wasn’t good news for me.

“But Pei Kee has made up her mind, and I can’t change it. That’s just how it goes.

“Of course, I was shocked and upset, and there are some things that I don’t understand but I can only accept her decision.”

The pair did not get to see action on court this year after Pei Kee contracted influenza before the Malaysian Open, and were also forced to withdraw from the Indian Open and Indonesian Masters.

But Mei Xing said their results last year were not all bad, but a lack of communication between the pair had also made things difficult.

“I don’t think our results last year were terrible. It’s acceptable but can be improved.

“But I don’t know what Pei Kee is thinking because we don’t communicate well, and that’s also a reason why we can’t continue together,” said Mei Xing.

Still unsure of who will be permanently alongside her on court, Mei Xing said she will be pairing up with Tan Zhing Hui, whose partner, Gan Min Yee has been sidelined due to injury.

Mei Xing said she would play with Zhing Hui at the Singapore International Challenge from Feb 24-Mar 1, and the Singapore International Series from Mar 3-8.

“I’ll be partnering with Zhing Hui until her partner recovers. So just trying things out.

“I’m not giving up because I feel my body isn’t weak and is still fit to play internationally,” she said.
