KUALA LUMPUR: Professional men’s doubles player Ong Yew Sin has been advised to lodge a police report for the authorities to investigate recent online threats against him.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the threats constitute a criminal offence.
"Yew Sin needs to file a report so that investigations can be conducted and appropriate action taken," he said here on Thursday (Jan 22).
"This is the responsibility of the authorities. We have zero tolerance for any reported crime and will respond accordingly. If there are criminal elements involved, we will deal with them as best as possible.

"In my view, any issues of this nature should be reported to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), not just by athletes but by all citizens. Threats of a criminal nature should be referred to us.
"We will take note of all reports. Report to the police and we will take action. Anything related to enforcement falls under PDRM’s responsibility," Comm Fadil added.
Earlier, he attended the PDRM Cycling Team 2026 bicycle and jersey handover ceremony at city police headquarters here.
Yew Sin is the latest badminton player to receive threats from unknown individuals on social media following his and partner Teo Ee Yi’s first-round defeat to Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan in the Indonesian Masters on Tuesday (Jan 20).
This is the second such incident involving a badminton player this month. Earlier, mixed doubles player Toh Ee Wei was subjected to online abuse and cyberbullying after inconsistent performances at last week’s Indian Open.
