Seu Bock, Kay Bin and Zakry set to play new roles under BAM coaching revamp

KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes are on the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as the body prepare to unveil changes to their national coaching set-up, along with new coaching appointments at today’s council meeting.

High-profile names such as Datuk Teu Sey Bock, Yeoh Kay Bin and Mohd Zakry Latif have been linked to the restructuring.

However, BAM are also reportedly considering other coaches to bolster the national squad.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky said, in addition to Zakry, another coach is expected to join the Malaysian doubles team.

The new appointment is likely to assist Rosman Razak with the women’s doubles squad.

However, Rexy declined to reveal the coach’s identity, respecting the terms of his current contract with another national team.

“At the doubles department, there are only two new appointments, Zakry and another coach whose identity I’m not revealing.

“The rest are in the singles department,” said Rexy.

Rexy also declined to reveal the details of the new coaching structure being introduced by BAM today.

Earlier, BAM’s performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei explained that there was a proposal to overhaul the existing coaching set-up in order to boost player performance and streamline training processes.

Seu Bock, who previously coached the junior singles squad, is expected to return to lead the senior team, and has already been seen taking up his duties at the Malaysian Open, supporting Leong Jun Hao during matches.

With Seu Bock’s departure leaving a vacancy in the junior squad, former coach of Lee Zii Jia, Kay Bin, is expected to be appointed to fill the role.

Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark is currently the head singles coach.
