Malaysia get fair draw in SEA Games badminton team event

PETALING JAYA: The men’s badminton team will begin their Thailand SEA Games campaign against the Philippines in a tie scheduled at Thammasat University in Pathum Thani on Sunday (Dec 6).

The draw conducted on Saturday saw defending champions Indonesia receive a bye and will advance straight to the semi-finals.

Singapore will take on Laos in the quarter-finals, and the winners will face Indonesia.

Malaysia, who are seeded second, are expected to meet Thailand in the semi-finals if they clear the Philippines without trouble.

In the women’s team event, Malaysia seeded joint third and fourth will open their campaign against Vietnam in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Their real test is likely to come in the semi-finals against defending silver medallists Indonesia, who will start their challenge against Myanmar in the quarter-finals.

Thailand, the defending gold medallists from the Cambodia edition, received a bye and will face either Singapore or the Philippines in the semi-finals.
