PETALING JAYA: Malaysia are guaranteed a spot in the men’s doubles quarter-finals of the French Open as Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are set to face compatriots Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin in the second round on Thursday (Oct 23).

It will be the ninth meeting between the two pairs since their first clash in 2019, with Ee Yi-Yew Sin having won their most recent encounter in the first round of the Japan Open in July.

Ee Yi-Yew Sin secured their spot in the next round after defeating India’s Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy-Sai Pratheek 21-18, 21-13, while second seeds Aaron-Wooi Yik overcame Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana 21-15, 26-24.

Meanwhile, former world No. 1 pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani regained their confidence with a hard-fought win over reigning Denmark Open champions Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi.

However, Sze Fei-Izzuddin had to dig deep before prevailing 15-21, 21-19, 21-11, and will next take on Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan in the second round.
