Good job: Tan Zhi Yang-Nicole Tan will face Hong Kong’s Cheng Ying Kit-Hung Ho Yan in the third round of the World Junior Championships.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s junior mixed doubles pairs continued their fine run after all three advanced to the third round of the World Junior Championships in Guwahati, India.

Top seeds Loh Zi Heng-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan lived up to expectations by clearing their second-round hurdle yesterday, beating Japan’s Mahiro Matsumoto-Meisa Anami 15-10, 15-5. They will next take on China’s Wei Jianzhen-Liang Yu En in the third round today.

Fifth seeds Tan Zhi Yang-Nicole Tan also progressed and will face Hong Kong’s Cheng Ying Kit-Hung Ho Yan today. The duo were made to work hard before overcoming Vietnam’s Le Minh Son-Bui Bich Phuong 18-16, 15-9 in the second round.

Meanwhile, newly formed pair Datu Anif Isaac-Low Zi Yu survived a scare before coming from behind to defeat India’s Vansh Dev-Dianka Waldia 6-15, 15-5, 15-10.

They will need to tighten their game ahead of their meeting with Indonesia’s Mulky Atmaja-Salma Mufida today.

It was, however, the end of the road for Irfan Shazmir-Teh Si Yan, who went down 15-10, 12-15, 11-15 to France’s Orphe Queton-Bouissou-Eva Bouville.

The girls’ singles shuttlers were equally impressive as all four representatives booked their spots in the third round after convincing wins over their respective opponents.

Eng Ler Qi defeated Canada’s Fulgencia Zhang 15-7, 15-10 and will face a tough test today against fourth seed Ranithma Liyanage of Sri Lanka.

Oo Shan Zi pulled off an upset by ousting 11th seed Mysha Omer Khan of the United Arab Emirates 15-8, 15-9, and will meet Indonesia’s Salsabila Amiradana in the next round.

Carine Tee also produced a fine performance to beat Slovenia’s 15th seed Anja Blazina 15-7, 15-10, setting up a clash with Denmark’s Marie Viscovich.

It was a tougher outing for the boys’ singles shuttlers, with only Ayu Fu Sheng left to carry Malaysia’s challenge after he defeated Portugal’s Hugo Campos 15-6, 15-4. He will next face Hong Kong’s Lam Ka To today.

His compatriot Kong Wei Xing, however, fell to Japan’s Hyugo Takano 15-13, 12-15, 8-15.

In the girls’ doubles, Nicole Hau-Teh Xin Ying had little trouble beating Ireland’s Nicole Joy-Michelle Shochan 15-8, 15-5, and will take on Sri Lanka’s Sandathi Hewagallage-Pawani Illeperumaarachchi today.
