Pearly-Thinaah’s title defence ends in Hong Kong Open semi-finals

PETALING JAYA: Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah’s hopes of defending their Hong Kong Open women’s doubles crown were dashed after they fell to China’s Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian in the semi-finals on Saturday (Sept 13).

In the match held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon, Pearly-Thinaah tried to withstand the relentless attacks from the Chinese duo, but Yifan-Shuxian proved too strong.

After a hard-fought 35-minute battle, Pearly-Thinaah bowed out of the tournament with a 14-21, 11-21 defeat. Their loss also ended Malaysia’s challenge in the competition.
