PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s women’s team made a strong start to their Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games campaign after beating Hong Kong 3-0 to reach the quarter-finals on Sunday (Sept 20).
K. Letshanaa gave Malaysia the opening point after beating Lo Sin Yan 21-9, 21-16 in 34 minutes in the first round tie at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi,
Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah then doubled Malaysia’s lead with a 21-11, 21-17 win over sisters Yeung Nga Ting-Yeung Pui Lam.
Second singles shuttler Wong Ling Ching sealed the tie for Malaysia after beating Liang Ka Wing 21-17, 21-14 to send the team into the quarter-finals.
Malaysia will next face defending champions South Korea, who received a first round bye.
