Soon Huat-Shevon bow out of Japan Open

PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie's run in the Japan Open came to an end after they went down to China's Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Soon Huat-Shevon had an opportunity to take the match to a third and deciding game when they led 20-19 in the second game but could not clinch the deal and lost 13-21, 21-23 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Friday (July 18).

The defeat meant that the independent pair's hopes of setting up an all-Malaysian last-four clash against Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei went up in smoke.

World No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei will instead take on world No. 2 Zhenbang-Yaxin on Saturday (July 19) for a place in the final.
