Bing Kun looking to make his short stint with Ee Wei sweet

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttler Loo Bing Kun (pic) will only be competing in three Open tournaments with Toh Ee Wei but he is not feeling downcast although the partnership will end so fast.

Instead, the 23-year-old Bing Kun wants to make the most of the rare chance to play with an experienced player like Ee Wei.

The pair will play in the Taiwan Open (May 6-11), Thailand Open (May 13-18) and Malaysian Masters (May 20-25) before Ee Wei will reunite with Chen Tang Jie.

“Although I can only play with Ee Wei in three tournaments, I can still learn a lot from her,” said Bing Kun after a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) yesterday.

“It’s not easy to get the chance to partner a top player like Ee Wei, so I want to make the most of this.

“Her front court play is top class. She is so good at creating attacking opportunities and this makes my job easier. I just need to take the chances.

“She is also fierce on court and has a fearless attitude which is important when facing higher ranked pairs.

“I hope we can do well in these three tournaments. She has already helped me a lot in training by sharing her experience and new strategies.

“Whenever I’m not comfortable, I will ask her how to improve my playing style and she will share some tips,” added Bing Kun.

While Bing Kun is only one year younger than Ee Wei, the former is still finding his feet in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) while the latter has formed a successful partnership with Tang Jie, reaching a career-high No. 3 in the world in January.

Despite splitting up last month after a strained relationship over the last few months, Ee Wei and Tang Jie have resolved their differences and will compete together again, starting from the Singapore Open from May 27-June 1.

Bing Kun believes that Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s decision to reunite is the right move.

“Ee Wei told me last week that she and Tang Jie will resume their partnership and no doubt this is the right move,” said Bing Kun.

“Of course, it’s better if both of them play together as they have reached No. 3 in the world which is not easy to achieve.

“They are also in the Road to Gold (RTG) Olympic programme, so this is a good decision.”

Meanwhile, Bing Kun is still in the dark as to who he will pair up with next after his partnership with Ee Wei ends.

“For now, I will focus on these three tournaments with Ee Wei first. The coaches will decide on my next partner and I have faith in them,” added Bing Kun.
