Badminton: Aaron-Wooi Yik smash past China's defending champions to reach Asian C'ships final

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik stormed into the Asian Championships final after pulling off an impressive win over China’s defending champions and world No. 3 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang.

World No. 6 Aaron-Wooi Yik were on top form as they came away with a commanding 21-12, 21-14 victory over the home favourites in just 31 minutes at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in China on Saturday (April 12).

It was sweet revenge for the 2022 world champions after they lost narrowly to Weikeng-Wang Chang in their last meeting in the semi-final of the Paris Olympics last August.

The win was only Aaron-Wooi Yik’s third success over the Chinese duo in their past 11 meetings.

The national No. 2 pair have reached their first final this year and will take on the winners of the other last four match between homesters Chen Boyang-Liu Yi and Indonesia’s Leo Rolly-Bagas Maulana for the title on Sunday (April 13).

Aaron-Wooi Yik finished runners-up in the tournament in 2022 and now have an opportunity to go one better.
