PETALING JAYA: Two weeks may be a short time to prepare for a major tournament, but Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah believe they have made every day count in preparing for the World Championships in New Delhi.
The women’s doubles pair only had a fortnight to prepare after returning home from the Taiwan Open on Aug 2, where they finished runners-up.
For Pearly, the two weeks were particularly important as she continues to work her way back to her best after being troubled by injuries in recent months.
"We've prepared as much as we could because we only had two weeks after the Taiwan Open.
"I’m very satisfied with what we managed to do during these two weeks. We trained quite well and our communication has been really good.
"Now, we just want to give our best in this tournament," said Pearly.
Pearly-Thinaah will face Turkiye’s Bengisu Ercetin-Nazlican Inci in the second round on Wednesday (Aug 19) for a place in the last 16.
The match will also give Thinaah a chance to make amends for her defeat to the world No. 22 pair at the Uber Cup Finals in Horsens four months ago.
Pearly withdrew at the last minute with a back injury then, forcing Thinaah to team up with Ong Xin Yee for the opening match, which they lost to the Turkish pair.
With Pearly back alongside her this time, Thinaah said they have worked with coach Rosman Razak on several plans to deal with different opponents in New Delhi.
"I think we've worked on a few strategies for both of us and we will apply them against each opponent," said Thinaah.
The Malaysian pair will also be hoping for another deep run after making history at the last World Championships in Paris, where they became the country’s first women’s doubles pair to reach the final.
They eventually settled for silver after losing to China’s Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning.
Also joining them in the second round are Xin Yee-Carmen Ting, who will take on second seeds Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto of Japan.
