PETALING JAYA: Denmark’s men’s singles badminton player Viktor Axelsen has decided to undergo surgery next week to treat his back injuries.

The two-time Olympic champion has been struggling with injuries over the past year and announced via social media that he will have endoscopic treatment.

"After consulting with my medical team, I have decided to undergo endoscopic treatment for my back issues next week," said Axelsen on social media.

"While this means I will need some weeks for rehab post-surgery, I am confident that I will come back stronger.

"I still feel like I have a lot of badminton left in me and I’m fully committed to doing everything necessary to return to the court at my best.

"I’m surrounded by extremely competent people and I’m looking forward to being able to hopefully train and compete pain-free again."
