Malaysia's German Open campaign ends with two remaining pairs crashing out in quarters

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s campaign at the German Open came to an end after both remaining pairs crashed out in the quarter-finals on Friday (Feb 28).

Men’s doubles duo Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi were defeated by South Korean pair Seo Seung-jae-Kim Won-ho 21-16, 21-16 in 38 minutes.

It was world No. 19 Roy King-Arif’s second straight loss to the newly-paired South Korean duo, after also suffering a defeat against them at the Malaysian Open in January.

Meanwhile in the women’s doubles, world No. 47 Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee also exited in the quarter-finals after falling to Japan’s Mitzuki Otake-Miyu Takahashi.

The No. 63 Japanese pair won 21-9, 21-13 against Mei Xing-Pei Kee in their first meeting on court.

The end in the quarter-finals means Malaysia won’t have a pair in the semi-finals for the first time at the German Open since 2016.

Malaysia have had representatives in the semis since 2016 and even won titles through mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in 2018 and men’s doubles duo Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in 2022.
