Malaysia led by Jun Hao fail to reach Asia mixed team quarter-finals

Men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao pulled off a hard fought 11-21, 22-20, 21-12 win over Yohanes Saut Marcellyno but could not prevent Malaysia from losing 2-3 to Indonesia in Group B in the Asia Mixed Team Championships.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's campaign in the Asia Mixed Team Championships ended after shuttler Leong Jun Hao and Co went down 2-3 to Indonesia in the second Group B match.

Mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie fought hard before losing 21-17, 13-21, 18-21 to Dejan Ferdinansyah-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in 64 minutes at the Qingdao Conson Sports Centre in China on Thursday (Feb 13).

K. Letshanaa failed to reduce the deficit when she lost 12-21, 19-21 to Komang Ayu in the women's singles.

Jun Hao, though, gave Malaysia a glimmer of hope when he battled hard to beat Yohanes Saut Marcellyno 11-21, 22-20, 21-12 in 80 minutes in the men's singles.

Women's doubles pair Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee tried to keep the team's chances alive but the duo lost 21-18, 7-21, 17-21 to Meilysa Trias-Rachel Allesya, ending Malaysia's attempt to qualify for the quarter-finals.

The defeat did not demoralise men's doubles duo Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun as they edged Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin 25-27, 21-17, 23-21 in 65 minutes.

Malaysia had lost 2-3 to Hong Kong in the opening match.
