KUALA LUMPUR: Independent women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei may skip the centralised camp for Olympic-bound shuttlers in Kuching, Sarawak from June 11-13.

Organised by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), the camp will take place two days after the Indonesian Open from June 4-9 and aims to give players a short break to recover from stress and redirect their focus to the Paris Olympics in July, with the assistance of psychologist Frederick Tan.

Jin Wei is hesitant to join the camp as she hopes to concentrate on her own preparations for the Games.

“I might not be joining the rest in the centralised camp to focus on my own preparations with my coach (Nova Armada),” said the world No. 33 Jin Wei.

“However, I will meet the CDM (chef de mission Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin) in a few days’ time for a discussion.”

Yesterday, Jin Wei bowed out in the second round of the Malaysian Masters after going down 10-21, 14-21 to Thailand’s world No. 20 Busanan Ongbamrungphan at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

It was Jin Wei’s fourth consecutive defeat against the Thai player after losing in the Indonesian Masters in 2016, Thailand Open (2016) and Asian Championships (2018).

With the loss, her streak of early-round exits continues as she has been eliminated early too in all other seven tournaments this year.

Jin Wei was frustrated with the outcome.

“I made quite a lot of mistakes today (yesterday) and it was really tough to stay focused during the match,” said Jin Wei.

“I’m still trying to figure out why this happened because I did my recovery and rested properly.

“There are many aspects that need improvement, and it is an overall situation, so I can’t specify which one.

“It’s frustrating to lose to her again, but I hope we’ll cross path in the near future.”

Jin Wei will now shift her attention to the Singapore Open starting on Tuesday before competing in the Indonesian Open (June 4-9).
