PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttler Choong Hon Jian is leaving his partnership plans in the hands of the coaches as he focuses on making the most of whoever he is paired with.
Hon Jian will return to the World Tour next month when he partners Soh Wooi Yik at the Arctic Open from Oct 6-11.
The tournament is set to be Wooi Yik’s final outing with a different partner before he reunites with Aaron Chia.
Hon Jian, however, is not looking too far ahead as his immediate focus remains on his partnership with Wong Vin Sean.
The pair will compete at the Indonesian Masters in Pontianak starting on Tuesday (Sept 1).
"I think when it comes to partnerships, everything is decided by the coaches. I also don’t know what their plans are, so I just want to focus on my own game without thinking too much about it," said Hon Jian.
"For me, that is the priority because the other things are beyond my control."
Hon Jian had previously partnered Mohd Haikal Nazri for almost three years before the pair split after the All-England in March to pursue separate paths.
He has since enjoyed a strong start with Vin Sean, with the pair capturing the Philippine International Challenge title in Manila earlier this month.
The triumph was particularly meaningful for Hon Jian as it was his first title in more than a year, having last won the Orleans Masters in 2024 with Haikal.
A week later, Hon Jian-Vin Sean continued their good run by finishing runners-up at the Malaysian International Challenge in Ipoh.
"I’m happy because my last title was at the Orleans Masters in 2024, so I hope I can keep this momentum going," he added.
