Ee Yi-Yew Sin out of Indian Open as former forced to fly back home due to passport issue

PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi were forced to withdraw from the Indian Open which starts on Tuesday (Jan 16) in New Delhi after the latter made an error in his visa application.

"I made a mistake by using my old passport for my online visa application,” lamented Ee Yi via social media on Monday (Jan 15).

"I tried using an emergency visa but unfortunately, the Indian immigration department decided to send me home.

"There's nothing that I can do. Now, I'm already in the flight back.

It was my mistake and I have to withdraw from Indian Open."

Said coach Rosman Razak: "It's unfortunate. Yew Sin and I are still here (in New Delhi), we will look at the next best option."

The withdrawal was a big blow to world No. 12 Yew Sin-Ee Yi, who face a race against time to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

The pair need to break into the top eight before the qualification period ends in April to make the cut.
