PETALING JAYA: Women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona has left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after being part of the national junior and senior squads for the last 11 years.
The 2019 SEA Games champion has been struggling from injuries and national singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann said that the 24-year-old shuttler’s main focus will be to recover from her constant knee problems before concentrating on her career as an independent player.
“Kisona has been constantly affected by her knee injuries and she also struggled in the Bangladesh International Challenge (in Dhaka two weeks ago) due to the same problem,” said Choong Hann.
“We have had a discussion with her and Kisona wants to continue with her treatment outside.
"On our part, we have come to an agreement that she will also be allowed to continue with her treatment and rehabilitation at the National Sports Institute (NSI),” he added.
Kisona said she will start playing as a professional shuttler once she recovers from the injury.
Besides Kisona, men’s doubles player Low Hang Yee has also left.
BAM has also dropped 14 other players in the national body’s trimming exercise, including men’s singles shuttler Lim Chong King.
