Malaysian Open: Cheer for Malaysia, four doubles pairs enter quarter-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Four local pairs provided the cheers for the hosts after reaching the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open badminton championships at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Thursday (June 30).

National No. 1 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik defeated Singapore's Teery Hee Terry Hee-Loh Kean Hean (Sin) 21-16, 21-13 while Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi defeated Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin of Taiwan 21-17, 21-18 in the second round.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also advanced to the last eight after receiving a walkover from Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India.

In the women's doubles, Anna Cheong-Teoh Mei Xing toppled second seeds Lee So-hee-Shin Seung Chan of South Korea 18-21, 21-12, 21-15 to reach the last eight.
